KYIV, April 25 - A substantial overnight assault by Russian forces resulted in four deaths and more than 30 injuries as Moscow launched a large-scale barrage that targeted Dnipro and several other parts of Ukraine, officials said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy wrote on social media that "Practically all night, the Russians bombed Dnipro and our other cities and communities," and noted that most of the impacts were on urban infrastructure. He added that "Every strike like this must remind our partners that the situation needs immediate and firm action, rapid strengthening of our air defences."
In Dnipro, regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported that two corpses were pulled from a building hit by a Russian strike. He said five additional people could still be trapped beneath the rubble and that another 21 residents of the city were wounded.
Separately, officials in the northern Chernihiv region said missile and drone attacks there killed two people and wounded seven others.
Ukraine's air force provided aggregate figures for the assault, saying on Telegram that Russia had used 619 drones and 47 missiles in the attack. The statement said air-defence forces shot down 580 of the drones and 30 of the missiles.
The Ukrainian military's account is consistent with a pattern of frequent smaller nightly drone barrages interspersed with occasional, much larger strikes deploying hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles.
Local officials in affected areas described overnight bombing across multiple population centers. In Dnipro, damage to a struck building produced fatalities and additional people possibly trapped under debris, while officials in Chernihiv confirmed casualties and injuries from missile and drone impacts.
The scale of the attack and the reported interception rates by Ukrainian forces were highlighted in official communications, while calls for strengthened air-defence support to partners were reiterated by the president.
Summary
A large Russian strike overnight killed four people and injured more than 30 across Ukraine, with Dnipro and Chernihiv among the locations hit. Ukrainian authorities say most incoming drones and missiles were intercepted, and concerns were raised about damage to urban infrastructure and trapped civilians.
