Portugal's main stock index ended Thursday's session with a clear advance, as the PSI rose 1.44% at the close in Lisbon. Gains were driven by strength in the Telecoms, Utilities and Technology sectors, which lifted an otherwise mixed market backdrop.

The session illustrated selective strength across sectors, with Telecoms, Utilities and Technology names helping to push the PSI higher while several major names posted modest declines or held flat.

Risks

  • Commodity price movements - oil and gold showed intra-session changes, introducing potential volatility to energy and commodity-sensitive sectors.
  • Currency fluctuations - small shifts in EUR/USD, EUR/GBP and a stronger US Dollar Index Futures could affect exporters and importers in Portugal.
  • Concentration risk - a relatively small group of stocks drove gains, which could translate to uneven sector exposure across the market.
