Meta Platforms is expanding artificial intelligence functionality inside Facebook with a set of features intended to make discovery and content production faster and more automated. The company said the additions are designed to help users locate information, generate images and videos, and complete tasks within the app.
Central to the update is an AI Mode that leverages Meta AI to surface answers drawn from publicly shared material across Meta's services - including Groups and Reels. Meta said the AI Mode is accessible from both Facebook's Feed and its search interface, allowing users to receive responses that reference content available on the platform.
On the creation side, Meta is introducing editing capabilities that apply AI to help assemble visual content. New tools can produce collage cutout templates and add transition effects to video montages, enabling users to assemble multi-clip sequences with automated styling. The company noted that suggestions that reference a user's camera roll are opt-in: those sharing prompts can be turned off by users who prefer not to allow the feature.
Photo presets are another component of the release. These presets allow users to modify elements such as clothing, hair and accessories using AI-based edits. As a specific use case cited by the company, sports fans can tap an AI Edit icon in stories to virtually wear team jerseys, or they can select a "Restyle profile picture with AI" option from their profile to apply similar changes.
Meta specified that the new capabilities are powered by Muse Spark, the underlying Meta AI model it is using for these features. The company said the tools are integrated across existing Facebook functions, including search and content browsing, so users encounter them in familiar places within the app.
The rollout bundles enhancements aimed at both content consumption - through AI-driven answers surfaced in Feed and search - and content creation, through automated editing templates and restyling presets. The camera roll sharing control and opt-in configuration were highlighted as a user control retained in the update.
