Overview
Anthropic has launched Claude Tag, an artificial intelligence agent integrated directly into Salesforce’s Slack application. The feature allows Slack users to summon Anthropic’s AI into a channel or thread by typing @Claude. Once invoked, the agent can consume and interpret conversation content, break down tasks and proactively flag updates or items of interest to participants in the workspace.
Availability and platform plans
Claude Tag is being offered as a research preview to customers on Anthropic’s Claude Enterprise and Team plans. Anthropic said the company intends to extend the capability to additional platforms in the coming weeks, while initially restricting the preview to those enterprise and team customers.
Functionality and controls
The agent is designed to retain context over time within channels so that it can act with continuity rather than responding only to single queries. Administrators are able to configure controls that determine which data sources and tools the agent may access in each channel, a setting intended to limit exposure of sensitive information.
Product differentiation
Cat Wu, Anthropic’s head of product for Claude Code, described Claude Tag as distinct from previous product moves because it will take proactive action in Slack channels and can be interacted with by multiple people simultaneously. Wu said the adoption of a tagging workflow - invoking the AI the same way one would tag a coworker - is particularly impactful. She said, "A lot of the capabilities did exist, but actually the form factor of being able to tag it the same way that you would a coworker is really powerful."
User example
Wu provided an example of the feature in practice: she granted her personal Claude Tag access to her Gmail so the agent could read messages and identify important correspondents. When the agent detects a relevant message, it posts a notification into Slack; Wu said she is more responsive when the AI surfaces items in Slack where she spends more time.
Business context
Anthropic said the rollout furthers its enterprise push amid high demand for its AI offerings. The company also cited a valuation of $965 billion, a figure it says exceeds that of a prominent industry peer.
Implications for markets and sectors
- Enterprise software and collaboration tools: Claude Tag represents a move to embed generative AI directly into team workflows.
- Cloud services and IT risk management: Administrative controls over data and tool access will be central to adoption in regulated environments.
