Xos Inc (NASDAQ:XOS) said Tuesday that it has received a $3 million order for 12 Xos Hub mobile energy storage and charging systems from a returning customer that operates an autonomous fleet. The announcement coincided with a 30% rise in Xos shares during after-hours trading.
The order, placed by an autonomous fleet operator, will supply 12 Hub units that Xos describes as mobile energy storage and charging systems. According to the company, the purchase is intended to augment the fleet operator’s charging capabilities as it expands operations across North America and Europe.
Xos noted that this sale comes after the company’s first Hub deliveries into Europe earlier this year. The firm says its Xos Hub units can be deployed in days and provide DC fast charging without requiring permanent utility upgrades or fixed infrastructure, enabling operators to put high-capacity charging in place quickly.
In its announcement, Xos referenced an industry projection for the global mobile storage market, saying it is projected to grow from $58 billion in 2025 to $156 billion by 2032, representing a 15% annual expansion. The company attributed that expected growth to grid constraints that, it said, are encouraging autonomous and high-utilization fleets to adopt alternatives to traditional utility infrastructure.
The Xos Hub is presented by the company as a solution that delivers high-capacity charging without permanent grid upgrades, thereby allowing fleet operators to electrify new sites without facing utility interconnection delays. The recent purchase order will extend the customer’s charging capacity across multiple operating regions, the company added.
"This order is proof of what the Xos Hub was built to do, put reliable power exactly where fleets need it, the moment they need it," said Dakota Semler, Chief Executive Officer of Xos. "When one of the most demanding fleets in the world chooses Xos to electrify its expansion across two continents, it validates the strength of our product, the speed of our deployment, and the trust we’ve earned through performance."
Xos indicated it expects continued demand for Hub units as the operator rolls out autonomous services in additional cities and regions. The company highlights the mobile nature of the product as a means to avoid permanent utility upgrades while scaling fleet charging capacity.
