Risks

  • Elevated implied volatility - the S&P/TSX 60 VIX rose 7.28% to 14.30 - can increase trading uncertainty for equity and options traders, affecting sectors with high option activity such as technology and financials.
  • Concentration of losses in Information Technology, Consumer Discretionary and Real Estate suggests sector-specific pressure that could weigh on related equities in the near term.
  • Large single-stock moves in both directions, exemplified by double-digit percentage gains in several miners and steep declines in key large-cap names, may increase market dispersion and short-term risk for diversified portfolios.
