Taiwan equities finished higher on Wednesday, with the Taiwan Weighted climbing 1.76% to close at a new record level. The advance was driven by strength in the Semiconductor, Electronics and Electrical/Machinery sectors, which underpinned the broader market push.

Risks

  • Several individual stocks experienced large single-day declines, which highlights stock-specific risk for investors in mid- and small-cap names - sectors impacted include electronics and textiles.
  • Crude and Brent oil prices moved in opposite directions on the day, creating uncertainty for energy-exposed sectors and companies.
  • Currency fluctuations such as the 0.22% rise in USD/TWD may affect companies with significant import/export exposure in Taiwan.
