Tadawul edges up as Transport, Cement and Energy & Utilities lift Saudi stocks

Saudi Arabia's benchmark rose modestly at the close, led by gains in the Transport, Cement and Energy & Utilities sectors. A small group of stocks posted strong advances, but decliners outnumbered advancers. Oil and commodity prices moved higher by session end while major FX pairs were largely unchanged.

  • Tadawul All Share index closed up 0.11%, with Transport, Cement and Energy & Utilities leading gains.
  • Top performers included Almajed 4 Oud (TADAWUL:4165), Advanced Building Industries (TADAWUL:2240) and Al Kathiri Holding (TADAWUL:3008); largest declines were Al ELM Information Security (TADAWUL:7203), Abdullah Saad Mohammed Abo Moati Stationeries (TADAWUL:4191) and United Cooperative Assurance (TADAWUL:8190).
  • Commodities were firmer: March crude oil $63.53/bbl, April Brent $67.57/bbl, and April gold futures $5,079.40/oz; FX pairs EUR/SAR and USD/SAR showed negligible movement.

Saudi Arabian equities finished the session in positive territory on Wednesday, with the Tadawul All Share index closing up 0.11%.

Sector performance was led by Transport, Cement and Energy & Utilities, which provided the primary upward momentum for the market. Despite the index gain, market breadth skewed negative as more stocks fell than rose.

Overall, the day closed with a modest index gain but mixed internal dynamics, as a handful of names posted strong percentage increases while a larger group of listings declined. Commodity price increases accompanied the session, and major FX pairs showed little movement.

Risks

  • Negative market breadth - 208 decliners versus 115 advancers - may signal uneven sector participation, impacting Transport, Cement and Energy & Utilities sectors.
  • A notable 52-week low at Al ELM Information Security Company CJSC (TADAWUL:7203) highlights firm-specific downside risk within technology-related names.
  • Volatility in commodity prices could influence Energy & Utilities sector performance, given the session's movements in crude and Brent oil.
