Roblox introduced '4D creation,' a beta artificial intelligence model that translates natural language prompts into fully functional in-game models with interactive physics. Building on an earlier system that produced static 3D objects, the new model can generate vehicles whose doors open and that can be driven with realistic mechanics. The move is intended to make it easier for a broader range of creators to build on Roblox, while the company expands server capacity and invests in AI and safety measures amid growing scrutiny.

Roblox rolled out a new artificial intelligence capability called 4D creation, offering developers and creators the ability to generate complete, functioning in-game models from natural language prompts. The feature, released into beta, expands on the company's prior model that produced static three-dimensional assets by making objects interactable and subject to in-game physics.

Unlike a tool that only outputs visual representations, 4D creation can produce a working vehicle that responds to player input - its doors can open and it can be driven with accurate physics mechanics. By combining visual generation with behavior and physics, the model translates a text description into an asset that can be placed directly into a game environment and behave according to the platform's simulation rules.

The company framed the capability as a way to reduce the technical entry costs for creators on its user-led development ecosystem. Roblox relies on its community of creators to build the games and experiences that attract players to the platform, and the firm said 4D creation is designed to bridge gaps between different types of contributors.

"You want to create an object, that is one path, and for the artist, the visuals might be easy, the coding might be hard. The other is, youre a game developer who finds the visuals harder, coding easier. So were trying to bring all of them together, and our highest goal would be that a player can create inside a game," said Anupam Singh, Roblox's senior vice president of engineering for foundation AI and infrastructure.

The functionality is part of a broader effort by Roblox to develop AI-based world models - systems that can understand the rules and dynamics of an environment so they can predict and generate future gameplay. Roblox positioned 4D creation as a step toward models that do more than create static scenes, enabling AI to reason about interactions and procedural behavior inside virtual worlds.

Roblox has been expanding server capacity to accommodate its growing audience while also allocating resources toward building AI models and safety systems. Safety has become an area of regulatory and governmental attention, and the company is directing investment to both model development and measures intended to address those concerns.

The rollout comes amid a flurry of activity in generative AI for virtual environments. The announcement follows, by one week, a separate release from Alphabet's Google of an AI model intended to simulate and generate real-world environments from prompts or uploaded images.

Roblox reported having more than 150 million average daily active users at the end of the third quarter. By lowering the technical threshold for asset creation and enabling creators to combine visual and behavioral design through text prompts, the company aims to spur creation of new titles and broaden participation in its developer community.
