Paris equities ended the trading day on Thursday with modest losses as weakness in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors outweighed advances elsewhere.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 0.22%, while the broader SBF 120 slipped 0.24%.
Among blue-chips, TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF) was the top performer on the CAC 40, finishing up 2.68% - a gain of 2.06 points to 78.87. Air Liquide SA (EPA:AIRP) advanced 2.04%, up 3.74 points to close at 187.18, and STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STMPA) rose 1.57%, adding 0.51 points to end the session at 32.69.
On the downside, Capgemini SE (EPA:CAPP) led losses on the CAC 40, sliding 4.63% or 4.78 points to finish at 98.42. Publicis Groupe SA (EPA:PUBP) dropped 4.27%, down 3.20 points to 71.80, and Dassault Systemes SE (EPA:DAST) fell 4.05% or 0.72 points to settle at 16.93.
The SBF 120 showed similar dispersion. Vallourec (EPA:VLLP) recorded the strongest gain in the index, climbing 5.47% to 23.15. Rexel (EPA:RXL) rose 3.26% to 37.71, and Technip Energies BV (EPA:TE) added 2.90% to close at 41.10.
Conversely, Alstom SA (EPA:ALSO) was the weakest SBF 120 name, falling 8.48% to 23.00. Emeis SA (EPA:EMEIS) declined 8.30% to 13.81, while Solutions 30 SE (EPA:S30) lost 7.31% to close at 0.52.
Volume of movers favored decliners on the Paris exchange. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 300 to 187, and 68 issues finished unchanged.
Several individual-stock milestones were recorded during the session. Shares of Air Liquide SA (EPA:AIRP) rose to an all-time high, increasing 2.04% or 3.74 points to 187.18. STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STMPA) climbed to 52-week highs, gaining 1.57% or 0.51 to 32.69. Vallourec (EPA:VLLP) reached 5-year highs, up 5.47% or 1.20 to 23.15. By contrast, Solutions 30 SE (EPA:S30) fell to 5-year lows, losing 7.31% or 0.04 to 0.52.
Market volatility, as measured by the CAC 40 VIX, was unchanged on the session but recorded a new 52-week high. The VIX stood flat at 18.96, a fresh 52-week peak.
Commodities moved higher. June gold futures rose 0.93%, up 44.20 to $4,821.40 a troy ounce. In oil markets, the front-month contract for May delivery climbed 4.14% or 3.91 to $98.32 a barrel, while the June Brent contract increased 1.16% or 1.10 to trade at $95.85 a barrel.
Currency and fixed-income related measures showed small moves. EUR/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 1.17, while EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.05% to 0.87. The US Dollar Index Futures was lower by 0.41% at 98.51.
