Mexico's main stock index closed higher after trading on Monday, driven by sector gains that pushed the benchmark to a fresh all-time closing high. The S&P/BMV IPC rose 0.72% at the close, supported by strength in Industrials, Consumer Goods & Services and Consumer Staples.
At the top of the S&P/BMV IPC leaderboard was Promotora y Operadora de Infraestructura SAB de CV (BMV:PINFRA), which advanced 4.19% - a gain of 11.35 points - to finish at 282.38. Grupo Mexico, S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV:GMEXICOB) added 3.47% or 6.69 points to end the session at 199.62. Industrias Peñoles Sab De CV (BMV:PEOLES) also outperformed, rising 3.40% or 36.53 points to close at 1,111.00.
On the downside, Genomma Lab Internacional SAB De CV (BMV:LABB) was the weakest performer among headline names, slipping 2.65% or 0.46 points to 16.92 at the close. Cemex SAB de CV (BMV:CEMEXCPO) declined 1.69% - down 0.38 points - to 22.09, while Becle SA (BMV:CUERVO) lost 1.40% or 0.28 points to finish at 19.70.
Market breadth was mildly positive. Rising stocks outnumbered decliners on the Mexico Stock Exchange by 117 to 108, while 13 issues finished unchanged.
Notable price milestones were recorded within the session. Shares of Promotora y Operadora de Infraestructura reached an all-time high, closing up 4.19% at 282.38. Conversely, Genomma Lab Internacional's shares moved to 52-week lows, falling 2.65% to 16.92.
Commodity and foreign exchange markets showed mixed moves during the session. Gold Futures for April delivery were up 0.68% or 33.89 to $5,050.89 a troy ounce. In crude markets, the March contract fell 0.61% or 0.37 to $60.70 a barrel, and the April Brent oil contract declined 0.41% or 0.27 to $64.80 a barrel.
On currency crosses, USD/MXN was up 0.10% at 17.37, while EUR/MXN rose 0.52% to 20.63. The US Dollar Index Futures moved lower, down 0.54% at 96.88.
Overall, the close reflected pockets of strength among industrial and consumer-oriented names, while certain materials and consumer goods companies underperformed. The market finished with a positive bias, taking the main index to a record closing level.
