Spain's stock market finished Tuesday's trading in negative territory, with sector-level weakness in Consumer Goods, Consumer Services and Financial Services & Real Estate contributing to the modest decline.
At the Madrid close the benchmark IBEX 35 lost 0.12%. The headline reading registered 19,997.10, a drop of 24.70 points from the prior close -24.70(-0.12%).
The session's strongest performers on the IBEX 35 were energy-oriented names. SOLARIA ENERGIA Y MEDIO AMBIENTE (BME:SLRS) led gains, rising 3.03% or 0.52 points to finish at 17.71. Corporacion Acciona Energias Renovables SA (BME:ANE) climbed 2.97% or 0.64 points to end at 22.20, while Acciona (BME:ANA) added 2.58% or 5.40 points to close at 214.60.
On the downside, textile and industrial names weighed on the index. Industria de Diseno Textil SA (BME:ITX) was the largest decliner, falling 2.08% or 1.20 points to trade at 56.36 at the close. Acerinox (BME:ACX) slipped 1.75% or 0.32 points to 17.96, and Banco de Sabadell SA (BME:SABE) dropped 1.18% or 0.04 points to 3.70.
Market breadth in Madrid tilted slightly positive by number: 102 stocks finished higher versus 89 that declined, while 19 shares were unchanged.
Commodities showed mixed moves. Gold futures for December delivery retreated 0.88% or 39.26 to $4,437.34 a troy ounce. In energy markets, crude oil for October delivery rose 0.73% or 0.67 to $92.15 a barrel, and the November Brent contract gained 0.31% or 0.30 to trade at $97.30 a barrel.
In FX markets the euro was little changed against major peers: EUR/USD was flat at 1.16, registering an unchanged 0.02% move, while EUR/GBP held steady at 0.86 with a 0.00% change. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29%, trading at 98.86.
