Lucid Group Inc saw its shares rise after its Air Grand Touring recorded the longest distance in Norway’s Automobil-Forbund (NAF) Winter Test, covering 520 kilometers without recharging in temperatures as low as minus 31 degrees Celsius. The result beat the next closest competitor by nearly 100 kilometers and follows earlier range records for the model.

Key Points

  • Lucid's Air Grand Touring covered 520 km in the NAF Winter Test at temperatures down to -31C.
  • LCID stock rose 2.5% after the company announced the winter test result.

Lucid Group Inc (NASDAQ:LCID) shares climbed 2.5% on Thursday after the automaker announced that its Air Grand Touring completed the greatest distance recorded in the Automobil-Forbund (NAF) Winter Test in Norway. The luxury electric sedan travelled 520 kilometers (323 miles) during what organizers described as the coldest edition of the NAF Winter Test, with ambient temperatures reaching minus 31 degrees Celsius on snowy roads.

The vehicle completed a route from Oslo to the highlands without stopping to recharge and exceeded the distance logged by the next closest competitor by nearly 100 kilometers. Lucid characterized the outcome as confirmation of the Air Grand Touring’s range capabilities under severe winter conditions.

Lawrence Hamilton, Lucid’s President of Europe, commented on the result, saying it was appropriate to call the Air Grand Touring the "king of range" even in extreme winter weather. The statement highlighted the company’s emphasis on the car’s range performance in challenging climates.

Lucid notes that the Air Grand Touring is powered by its proprietary electric powertrain technology. The model carries a WLTP range rating of up to 960 kilometers and a combined consumption figure of 13.5 kWh/100 km. Performance specifications supplied by the company list maximum power at 611 kW (831 PS) with a top speed of 270 kilometers per hour.

The Lucid Air Grand Touring previously registered a leading distance in the NAF Summer Test, covering 828.6 kilometers, and the company also states that the vehicle holds a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge at 1,205 kilometers.

The NAF Winter Test - also referred to as "El Prix" - assesses electric vehicles’ range and charging speed in Nordic conditions. This year’s winter evaluation included 24 participating vehicles, putting a variety of models through cold-weather performance and charging trials.
