Winners and losers

AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) led the gainers on the index, rising 3.41% - an increase of 472.00 points - to finish at 14,302.00. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 1.79% or 115.00 points to close at 6,545.00, while Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) gained 1.77% or 90.00 points to end the day at 5,164.00.

On the downside, Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:BTRW) was the weakest performer, sliding 4.70% or 12.60 points to close at 255.70. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) dropped 3.85% or 43.00 points to end at 1,075.00, and Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) fell 3.77% or 17.50 points to 447.30.

Market breadth and notable lows

Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1,224 to 567, with 511 stocks unchanged. Shares of Barratt Redrow PLC fell to a five-year low at 255.70 after the 4.70% drop. Auto Trader Group Plc likewise moved to a five-year low, declining 3.77% to 447.30.

Commodities and currencies

Commodity markets saw pronounced moves during the session. Gold Futures for June delivery rose 3.05% or 134.34 to $4,543.34 a troy ounce. In energy markets, crude oil for May delivery climbed 4.27% or 4.03 to $98.51 a barrel, while the June Brent contract increased 2.55% or 2.60 to trade at $104.49 a barrel.

In currency markets, the pound weakened against the dollar, with GBP/USD down 0.41% to 1.33. EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.32% to 0.87. The US Dollar Index Futures moved up 0.23% to 99.93.


The trading session left the main U.K. benchmark marginally lower overall, with gains concentrated in a handful of large-cap names while breadth remained tilted toward decliners. Commodities and FX exhibited notable intraday moves alongside the equity market shifts.
