Among the top performers on the Athens General Composite were Fourlis Hld (AT:FRLr), which advanced 3.76% or 0.16 points to finish at 4.41. Alumil (AT:ALMr) gained 3.68% or 0.20 points to close at 5.64, while Ilyda SA Class R (AT:ILYr) rose 3.01% or 0.15 points to end the session at 5.14.
On the downside, Elvalhalcor Hellenic Copper and Aluminium Industry SA (AT:ELHA) led the laggards with a 3.74% decline, sliding 0.18 points to 4.63 at the close. Titan Cement International SA (AT:TITCr) fell 3.57% or 2.10 points to finish at 56.70, and Lavipharm SA (AT:LPHr) lost 2.76% or 0.03 points to trade at 1.20.
Market breadth was tilted to the downside on the Athens Stock Exchange, with 79 stocks falling and 39 advancing; 17 issues finished unchanged.
In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery declined 4.93% or 264.16 to $5,090.64 a troy ounce. Crude oil for March delivery was unchanged at 0.00% or 0.00, settling at $65.42 a barrel, while the April Brent contract edged up 0.03% or 0.02 to $69.61 a barrel.
Currency markets showed movement as well: EUR/USD fell 0.66% to 1.19, and EUR/GBP was effectively flat, unchanged by 0.03% at 0.87. The US Dollar Index Futures increased 0.55% to 96.67.
