Commvault Systems Inc reported an uptick in its share price Monday after unveiling an expanded strategic collaboration with Google Cloud intended to strengthen data protection and security for enterprise customers. The Tinton Falls, New Jersey-based cyber resilience vendor said the broadened partnership brings new capabilities aimed at defending against ransomware and insider threats while helping organizations meet regulatory obligations.
The company introduced a package of features that it says will bolster recovery and preservation of critical information. Among the additions are:
- Air Gap Protect - a capability that enables customers to keep immutable backups in isolated locations within Google Cloud to reduce exposure to cyber threats;
- Cloud Rewind - a rapid application recovery solution designed to accelerate restoration after destructive events;
- Enhanced compliance search for Google Workspace - expanded functionality to support regulatory and investigatory needs; and
- Compliance-ready Archive Tier - a storage tier intended to support regulatory retention requirements and improve long-term data retention economics.
Commvault said that Air Gap Protect for Google Cloud is available immediately. The company added that Cloud Rewind and Google Workspace protection will be offered through the Google Cloud Marketplace, and that the Compliance Search features for Google Workspace are currently in early access with general availability expected in the first half of 2026.
The product announcements come amid what Commvault cites as increasing cybersecurity pressure on enterprises. The company referenced data indicating that 80% of organizations have seen a rise in cloud attacks and said the typical downtime following a ransomware incident averages 24 days. Commenting on the collaboration, Rajiv Kottomtharayil, Chief Products Officer at Commvault, said: "By expanding our collaboration with Google Cloud, we’re giving enterprises the confidence that their critical data and cloud applications are protected, isolated, and recoverable, so their business never stops."
Market reaction was immediate: Commvault stock rose 3.1% on Monday. The announcements and availability timelines for the suite of features will be watched by enterprise IT teams, cloud service buyers and cybersecurity vendors as organizations consider how to pair cloud-native operations with stronger data protection and compliance controls.
Sectors impacted: Cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, enterprise software.
