Moroccan equities closed higher on Tuesday, with the Moroccan All Shares index ending the session up 1.05% in Casablanca. Strength in the Banking, Beverage and Transport sectors helped underpin the advance.

Commodities and currency moves accompanied equity trading. Crude oil for September delivery fell 4.29%, down $3.45 to $76.89 a barrel. Brent oil for October delivery declined 3.71%, or $3.11, to $80.66 a barrel. In metals, the December Gold Futures contract rose 1.26%, gaining $51.40 to trade at $4,141.90 a troy ounce.

The day’s activity highlights a market where a few large percentage gains among select miners and industrial names supported the index headline, while a set of mid- and small-cap names recorded declines. Traders and observers will likely watch commodity prices and currency pairs for potential influence on input costs and margins for listed companies.

Risks

  • Commodity price volatility - sharp moves in crude oil and Brent could affect energy-related costs for companies and broader consumer prices, impacting sectors sensitive to input costs.
  • Currency fluctuations - shifts in EUR/MAD and USD/MAD, while modest in this session, present an uncertainty for firms with import/export exposure or foreign-currency liabilities.
  • Concentration of gains - the index rise was supported by a limited number of large percentage winners, which could indicate vulnerability if those stocks reverse.
