InterDigital, a US-based wireless technology research company, has been granted a preliminary injunction by a Brazilian court against Transsion for infringing two essential 5G patents. The injunction blocks Transsion from selling 5G devices in Brazil and upholds InterDigital's FRAND licensing offer. This legal success reinforces InterDigital's position in the 5G technology market and its patent portfolio's value.

Key Points

  • Brazilian court ruled Transsion infringed two InterDigital 5G patents and granted a preliminary injunction.
  • InterDigital's licensing offer to Transsion was deemed fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND).
  • The injunction bars Transsion from selling 5G-compliant devices in Brazil, protecting InterDigital's IP rights.

WILMINGTON, Del., April 01, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC), a wireless, video and AI technology research and development company, today announced it has been awarded a preliminary injunction against Transsion by a court in Brazil.

The 3rd Regional Business Court of Rio de Janeiro ruled that InterDigital is entitled to a preliminary injunction resulting from Transsion’s infringement of two InterDigital 5G patents. The court also found InterDigital’s licensing offer to Transsion to be fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND). As a result of the injunction, Transsion is prevented from selling 5G-compliant devices in Brazil.

The decision follows the publication of an independent expert report, commissioned by the Rio court, which fully supported InterDigital's position that Transsion infringes both of the patents-in-suit and that the patents are essential to 5G.

“As a foundational innovator in cellular wireless, our research provides the building blocks for today’s 5G networks and devices and enables newer players like Transsion to quickly scale its business and enter new markets,” commented Josh Schmidt, Chief Legal Officer, InterDigital. “Transsion should pay fair value for technology that it uses every day and cannot be allowed to gain an unfair advantage over so many of its competitors who have paid for a license to our portfolio.”
